Special Area Plan

Connecting to a World's Natural Heritage

Penang Botanic Garden was established in 1884 thus has the distinction of being the oldest botanic garden in Malaysia. Previously called PBG or Waterfall gardens, this Botanic Garden is nestled by the tropical rainforest of its hill surrounding on its western and norther borders.

The past Ad-hoc additions of facilities within the gardens hinder full implementation of the original master plan, thus the need for the Special Area Plan (SAP) to relook at the master plan in accommodating the required facilities for the PBG to fully realise its potential and role as a botanic garden.
